Since 2007, Sled Island Music & Arts Festival has transformed Calgary each June into a vibrant, eclectic hub of discovery, creativity and connection. This multi-venue music and arts festival has grown into a community-wide celebration uniting up to 30,000 attendees across five unforgettable days.
But Sled Island is more than just a festival. It is a space for inclusion and connection, and a stage for both emerging talent and seasoned artists, a meeting place for strangers-turned-friends, and a showcase that puts Calgary on the map.
Every year, audiences discover the next band they’ll fall in love with, artists find unexpected collaborators, and locals experience their city like it’s new. Whether it’s a friendship forged in line at the Palomino or a memory made biking between shows on a perfect summer evening, Sled Island leaves an imprint far beyond the venues.
Sled Island reflects Calgary’s evolving culture, diverse and bold. For some attendees, it is their first time seeing live music, for others; it is a decades-long tradition or even an annual reunion. It is a reminder that art and community can be one and the same.
One attendee last year summed it up best: “Sled Island is always five of the best days of the year in Calgary.”
Whether you’re discovering your new favourite artist, reconnecting with old friends, or just soaking in the magic of a downtown that feels truly alive, Sled Island shows us a different side of Calgary.
